Isokratia the sailing catamaran boat named after Isokratia socio-governing system, is presently anchored at the Island of Phuket in Thailand waiting for departure. Chris Neophytou the author of Isokratia and owner of the Isokratia boat is making final test runs with his crew. The date set to sail away from Phuket to come to Greece is set to be the 29th of January 2007.
The journey will take Isokratia the sailing catamaran from Phuket in Thailand to Greece via the Indian Ocean. Stops will be made at the Nicobar Islands, Sri Lanka if required for any repairs or provisions. Then on to the Maldives Islands where Chris younger son George Neophytou will joint the crew. After a few days Island hopping at the Maldives Isokratia will head for Uligamu the north island of the Maldives where a stop will be made for provisions and refuelling.
From the Uligamu island Isokratia will sail across to the Arabian sea. It will pass outside the Pirate infested Somalian island of Socotra and enter the mouth of the red sea. Head on for a stop at either Aden or Djibouti depending on weather conditions and fuel.
Then head on to sail all the length of the red sea passing through the gates of sorrow through the straights of Bab El Mandeb . Possible stops along the way of red sea will be Port Sudan, Sharn El Sheik, Egypt. Cross the Suez canal in Egypt.
Once pass through the Suez canal Isokratia will head for Cyprus the birth place of Chris Neophytou. At Cyprus a stop is planned for a week or two. Isokratia will then sail away to cross through the world paradise which is non other than the Greek islands, for itâ€™s final destination to Athens.
The whole voyage is estimated to take anything from 60 days to 90 days depending on weather conditions and whatever else may be encounter on the way.
Isokratia catamaran is an 18 meter sailing catamaran, build strong to be a passage maker into ocean waters. It is well equipped with all necessary and advance navigation systems.
Chris Neophytou will captain the journey. Although fully qualified his experience is limited to about 2000 nautical miles. But he is daring it!! The rest of the crew will be made up by Christopher Read a qualified RYA yacht master with a little bit more experience than Chris Neophytou. Chris Read will be acting as the first made; Chrysta Neophytou ( Chris wife) who will be the real captain of the boat will be the third crew member!! And finally Jui a local Thailand boy employed fulltime as the boat boy. George Neophytou ( Chrisâ€™s younger son ) will become the fifth crew member when he joins Isokratia at the Maldives islands.
